Leo may have grown, but his idea of personal space hasn’t changed. The mini Dachshund is still happily stretched across his owner’s lap in the car, even though there’s noticeably less room between him and the steering wheel these days. The video from @leo.the.doxiee shows just how cramped his favorite spot has become, with the wheel moving one way and Leo’s loose skin moving along with it. He doesn’t seem particularly bothered. He just stays put. A close-up photo even catches his eyebrows getting pushed back by the wheel, which makes the whole situation even funnier.
Puppy refuses to give up his favorite lap spot after outgrowing it
The video has picked up 88,500 likes in about 12 hours, and viewers are clearly entertained by Leo’s refusal to acknowledge that he has gotten bigger. An earlier video from the account shows a much tinier Leo sitting in the same spot on his owner’s lap. Back then, there was plenty of room between the little Dachshund and the steering wheel. Now? Not quite.
As the wheel turns, the skin around Leo’s face and head moves with it. He barely reacts. The close-up of his eyebrows being pushed back might be the best part, though. He looks completely comfortable while his face is getting a tiny workout.
Several commenters had their own theories about the situation. One person remembered having the same problem with a small dog whose belly ended up in the way of the steering wheel. Another joked that the only solution was getting a bigger car. Then came the massage theory. “Maybe it’s like a massage,” one viewer suggested, while another declared there were “100% head rubs” and “100% friction” happening.
Leo certainly seems happy to keep his lap spot, but there is one thing worth taking seriously behind the joke. A puppy or adult dog riding on the driver’s lap can interfere with steering and become seriously vulnerable if the car stops suddenly. A secured travel harness, carrier, or crate is much safer.
For now, Leo’s growing body may be making the old arrangement increasingly ridiculous, but his opinion hasn’t changed. The puppy refuses to move; the lap is still, apparently, his, and those head scratches (courtesy of the steering wheel) remain non-negotiable.
