Pets seemed to play a crucial part in modern relationships, according to a survey. Conducted by the Hily dating app, the study included Gen Z and millennials’ preferences. It was reported that dogs and cats have become non-negotiable in dating. A person seeking a relationship often looks for someone who also shares their love for pets. If the case appeared to be the opposite, the chances of choosing romance over fur babies have become extremely low. The dating app survey also suggested that profile photos with pets would be picked more often.
Survey shows how pets play an important role in modern relationships
In modern relationships, the involvement of pets has reportedly become important. A dating app, Hily, conducted a survey, “When Your Partner’s Pet Is a Dating Dealbreaker.” Around 82 percent of dog/cat owners claimed that they would choose their fur babies over romance if given the choice. Furthermore, the chances of finding a partner on dating apps for those allergic to dogs or cats have seemingly decreased.
Explaining the survey in detail, Julie Nguyen, a certified dating coach at Hily, told Newsweek about the influence of pet photos in modern relationships. “Animals are naturally really cute, and as a result, they can be super common in dating photos because of what they symbolically represent,” she said.
According to her, a person posting photos of themselves hiking with their dog or cuddling their cat at home would attract attention. It would show the adventurous and warm versions of that pet owner. However, these pictures could also help those with animal allergies to filter their options.
“A pet allergy seems like a minor problem, but it can create a huge incompatibility around how someone manages their daily life, how the pet exists in the home, and what both partners equally do,” Nguyen explained.
Moreover, pets are somehow reshaping modern relationships. Instead of avoiding someone with pets, many with allergies have been seeking medical help so that they can be with their partner and also love their pets. “What’s important is being able to have important and honest conversations around how pets can still be lovingly prioritized, while showing immense thoughtfulness around someone’s health, so resentment does not build,” Nguyen concluded.
