If you have ever watched a baby interact with a dog, you know that “gentle play” can be a fairly generous description. Babies are still learning how much force to use, where to touch, and how their movements affect the animals around them. Dogs, meanwhile, have to learn that those tiny hands and kicking feet are simply part of life with their youngest family member. One Golden Retriever appears to have mastered the arrangement, putting up with plenty of baby chaos for the privilege of kissing her feet.

Golden Retriever doesn’t mind baby’s antics if he gets to kiss her feet

A Golden Retriever named Brodie is getting plenty of attention from his family’s six-month-old baby, although their interaction does not exactly go according to his plans. A video shared on the Instagram account @brodie.the.menace shows Brodie standing beside his mom as she holds the baby in her arms.

The Golden Retriever appears focused on the baby’s feet and happily leans over to lick them. The little girl, meanwhile, is anything but still. She can be heard screeching and is seen kicking her legs while Brodie stays right beside her.

Her energetic response does not seem to discourage him. If anything, Brodie appears willing to tolerate all the movement to get a few more chances to lick her feet. The moment shows how fascinated Brodie is by his newest family member and how happy he is to be part of whatever she is doing.

The text displayed over the video explains the situation from Brodie’s perspective, joking that the Golden Retriever is “finally getting some attention” from the baby. It adds that he does not mind getting “terrorized” at times if it means he gets to kiss her.

The family also found another amusing similarity between the two. Their caption reads, “our six month old drools just as much as brodie,” poking fun at the drooling habits apparently shared by the baby and her canine companion.

Although the interaction is lighthearted, raising a baby alongside a dog requires adults to remain attentive. You can help both your baby and dog adjust by giving them separate safe spaces and supervising every interaction. It is also important not to force contact. Allow your pup to approach at their own pace while rewarding relaxed behavior. As your baby becomes more mobile, keep toys, food, and other items that could create competition out of reach, and continue giving your dog individual attention.
