Trying to start a fight with a dog usually backfires when they are just too sweet to take the bait. Priti Malik, Duke’s mom, tried to get a rise out of her dog over at @pritimalik. The clip opens with Duke lying calmly on the floor while Priti kneels beside him. The on-screen text reads, “Trying to rage bait my dog.” But he is a very patient Golden Retriever because in the video, we see his mom asking him to give her his paw over and over. She is trying to see if he will actually get annoyed. But Duke is just a chill guy. He keeps doing what she asks. Until he does something completely unexpected.

She asks him to do it like four times in a row. That’s when Duke looks at her like she has lost her mind. He actually stares at the camera for a second, like he is asking for help. But as we see in the video, the Golden Retriever gives a paw again anyway. He is being such a good sport about the whole thing. Goldens are known to be huge people-pleasers, so he is trying his best to keep his mom happy.
But then Duke finally has enough of the game. He lets out this massive yawn. Like, he is just bored by the repetition. And then, in a move even his mom didn’t anticipate, he just slowly lowers his head instead of giving her his paw again. He rests his chin right in her open palm. “Didn’t expect this from Duke,” Priti wrote in the caption.
It is way better than a handshake. It is just pure love and innocence. Then she starts kissing his snout because it was so sweet. The clip is blowing up with thousands of likes already. People are losing it over the “smushy” face he makes in the video.
One person commented that he was just telling his mommy he was tired. Another said that is exactly why a Golden Retriever is a human’s best friend. And those snout kisses at the end are definitely the best part. He just knows how to beat a trend by being cute.
